Configuring Virtual Serial Port

Select virtual serial port and click button.

Network Tab

IP address and TCP port fields allows reconfiguring remote side location to which virtual serial port connects.

Reconnect timeout: specifies period of time (in seconds) used when connection is lost or connection with remote computer cannot be established. If Auto reconnect option is enabled, Serial Port Redirector CE will try to reconnect to remote computer periodically on the expiration of this time.

"Auto reconnect" is enabled
Communications applications sucessfully opens virtual serial port, even if there is still no connection with the remote side.
"Auto-reconnect" is disabled
Communications application will open virtual COM port as soon as connection is established.
If connection cannot be established, it is considered as "broken" and virtual serial port will not be opened by communications application.

Protocol

Serial Port Redirector CE uses Telnet protocol (with the COM Port Control protocol specified by RFC 2217) and Raw data protocol (raw TCP connection) to transfer data.

Note: You can Configure serial port control signals for Raw data protocol. Selected signals will be preset for selected serial port.

Closing Port Manually

Even if virtual serial port is opened by some communications application, it is quite possible to close the port, making it available for other applications.

Select port, touch and hold it. In dropdown menu select Close to force port closing.
